Flood leaves rocks on Negros Oriental road

Rocks covered a portion of a road in Barangay Malaga, Bindoy, Negros Oriental after heavy rainfall triggered flooding in the area, authorities said.

The incident happened at around 1 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, following strong overnight rains that caused water to flow across the roadway and carry rocks onto the pavement, according to local disaster officials.

In an interview with Brigada News Dumaguete, Jimbo Carollo, team leader of the Bravo Team under the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Bindoy, said the rocks scattered across the road were the result of floodwaters rushing through the area during the early morning hours.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, Carollo said.

Responders from the LDRRMO immediately conducted a clearing operation to remove the rocks and debris from the road. The operation focused on ensuring that the affected stretch was safe and accessible for motorists as soon as possible.

After the clearing work was completed, authorities confirmed that the road was already passable to all types of vehicles. Motorists were advised to proceed with caution, especially during continued rainy conditions.

The flooding incident occurred as parts of Negros Oriental experienced heavy rainfall toward the end of the year. Local officials did not report any damage to nearby houses or other infrastructure related to the road blockage.

The LDRRMO continues to monitor weather conditions in the municipality and remains on alert for possible similar incidents, particularly in areas prone to flooding and debris flow during periods of intense rain.

Residents and motorists are encouraged to stay informed through official advisories and to exercise caution when traveling during and after heavy rainfall, as road conditions can change quickly during flood events.
