Flood control probe pushes through, Baligod and 18 ‘Ex-Marines’ invited

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee will proceed with its motu proprio investigation into alleged anomalies involving flood control projects, with a hearing scheduled for June 4, 2026.

The committee, chaired by Sen. Pia Cayetano, has again invited lawyer Levito Baligod to attend the inquiry. Also requested to appear are 18 individuals who identified themselves as former members of the Philippine Marines.

According to reports, invitations had already been sent to the invited resource persons. However, those invitations were reportedly withdrawn on the previous evening, creating uncertainty regarding their participation in the hearing.

Following the development, the committee directed the concerned individuals to submit notarized affidavits.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Baligod said some senators were allegedly concerned about the possibility of pressure being exerted on him and the other invited individuals by the administration.

Despite the earlier withdrawal of invitations, Baligod said the hearing would proceed as scheduled.

The Senate inquiry is part of the committee’s ongoing examination of issues surrounding flood control projects. The investigation is being conducted in aid of legislation and seeks to gather information from invited resource persons and government agencies.

The hearing is set to take place on Thursday, June 4, 2026, before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.

No additional details regarding the scope of testimony from the invited individuals were immediately provided.
