A fire that broke out Saturday afternoon in Bacolod City destroyed more than 20 houses and damaged several others, authorities said.
The blaze started around 2 p.m. in Purok Tambi Palad, Barangay 10, and quickly spread because many of the homes were made of light materials.
Firefighters managed to put out the flames shortly after 3 p.m., preventing further damage in the area.
Initial reports said at least 22 houses were totally destroyed, while five others were partially damaged.
The local government immediately provided assistance to residents affected by the fire. Officials did not release details on the type of aid given but confirmed support efforts were underway for displaced families.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire and are also working to determine the total cost of the damage.
No other details were immediately available as of reporting.
