Elderly woman dies in early morning fire in Cebu

A 68-year-old woman died in an early morning fire that broke out in Sitio Sudtunggan Tumoy, Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, on Sunday, October 26.

Authorities identified the victim as Teresita, 68.

According to the Lapu-Lapu City Fire District, the blaze was reported at 5:11 a.m. and raised to first alarm by 5:18 a.m. Firefighters managed to put out the flames at around 5:46 a.m.

Investigators said the fire spread quickly because the affected house was made of light materials, which may have prevented the victim from escaping in time.

The cause of the fire and the total amount of damage are still under investigation by fire officials.

Authorities reminded residents to ensure safety measures are in place, especially in homes made of combustible materials.
