A 6-year-old girl was killed after being accidentally shot by her father, who was reportedly drunk during a drinking session in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, on August 30.
According to police, the father was holding a firearm while drinking with companions when he accidentally pulled the trigger. The bullet struck his daughter, who was passing by at the time.
The victim died from the gunshot wound, authorities said.
Investigators added that the firearm used in the incident could no longer be located because the suspect allegedly threw it into a nearby river. Efforts to recover the weapon were unsuccessful.
Police confirmed that the father was briefly detained following the shooting. However, he was later released after his wife, the child’s mother, decided not to pursue legal charges against him.
The incident has drawn attention due to the tragic circumstances and the absence of legal accountability following the child’s death.
