The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) confirmed that the fire at its Bureau of Research and Standards did not damage any documents related to the flood control anomalies investigation.
In an official statement, the DPWH said the BRS office is responsible for research, studies, pilot testing, and the formulation of policies for government infrastructure projects.
The agency clarified that none of the files related to ongoing investigations were stored in the affected building.
Initial findings indicate that the fire originated from a computer unit inside the Materials Testing Division, which reportedly exploded. Firefighters and safety officers were able to control the blaze before it could spread to other areas.
The department also confirmed that no employees were injured during the incident.
An investigation team has been deployed to assess the full extent of the damage and to determine the exact cause of the fire.
According to the DPWH, the investigation aims to help prevent similar incidents in the future through a thorough assessment of equipment safety and facility protocols.
The agency assured the public that further updates will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.
