The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has reminded companies that they may implement flexible work arrangements to help ease the impact of rising oil prices caused by tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement, the agency suggested options such as a four-day workweek or work-from-home (WFH) schemes.
These measures aim to reduce businesses’ operational expenses while protecting the welfare of workers amid the ongoing crisis.
Under a four-day workweek setup, the standard 40-hour work schedule is compressed into Monday to Thursday.
Meanwhile, under a WFH arrangement, employees may still work eight or more hours onsite for four days, with work done remotely on Fridays, depending on the nature of their job.
DOLE also reminded employers that those who plan to implement such arrangements must submit a report through the agency’s online compliance portal.
However, Alvin Curada, Director of the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC), clarified that the policy is not mandatory for all companies.
