Five minors were rescued while two suspects were arrested in an entrapment operation targeting online sexual exploitation of children in Mati City on March 13, authorities said.
The operation was conducted around 3 p.m. in separate locations in Barangay Lawigan and Barangay Don Enrique Lopez. It was led by the Women and Children’s Protection Center (WCPC) Mindanao Field Unit under Police Col. Mario M. Baquiran, with support from the Regional Women and Children Protection Desk, Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit, Mati City Police Station, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
Authorities identified the suspects as alias “Lalai,” 37, a resident of Barangay Lawigan, and alias “Sheines,” 32, a resident of Barangay Don Enrique Lopez.
Police said the suspects were allegedly involved in exploiting minors through online transactions. During the operation, five children were rescued from the suspects.
Gadgets believed to have been used in communicating with clients were confiscated. Investigators said the suspects allegedly arranged online interactions involving minors in exchange for money.
Authorities urged parents to remain vigilant and closely monitor their children’s use of mobile phones and internet access. They emphasized the importance of guiding children, especially at night, and checking the websites they visit and the people they communicate with online.
Police also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity involving children to the Mati City Police Station.
The rescued minors are now under the care of appropriate social welfare agencies for further assistance and intervention.
