DOLE fines Tab Baldwin, Ateneo nearly P5-M each over permit violations

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has imposed an administrative fine of P4.9 million each on Ateneo de Manila University and former Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin.

Fines were imposed for their failure to secure the required Certificate of Exemption for an Alien Employment Permit.

According to DOLE, Baldwin’s violation lasted 490 days, from February 10, 2025, until his resignation in 2026.

Baldwin and Ateneo were also separately fined P10,000 each for failing to secure an Alien Employment Permit while the coach was working with the team.

Meanwhile, Baldwin remains under investigation in connection with the deaths of student-athletes Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili, who died during a team activity in Aurora in June.
