DOH aims to screen millions of Filipinos for tuberculosis

The country continues its fight against tuberculosis.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), it aims to screen around 12 million Filipinos nationwide to help eradicate the disease.

In a statement, the agency said this initiative falls under the newly approved Philippine Strategic TB Elimination Plan Phase 2 (PhilSTEP2) 2025–2030.

In addition, the department is proposing a ₱4.2-million budget for tuberculosis services under the National Expenditure Program (NEP).

Meanwhile, Acting World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to the Philippines Eunyoung Ko described tuberculosis as a global challenge, emphasizing that any progress toward its elimination makes a significant impact.

She also noted that the Philippines has shown effective efforts and tangible results in combating the disease.

Based on DOH data, tuberculosis remains one of the leading causes of death in the country, with the Philippines accounting for 6.8% of the 10.7 million global cases.
