The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has laid out its priority programs for 2026.
During the “Kapihan sa DICT” press briefing, the agency emphasized how digital transformation can better serve Filipinos—through affordable internet, faster speeds, wider connectivity, transparent governance, and stronger online protection.
Among the initiatives discussed were Blockchain the Budget and a Paperless Congress, the 2026 ASEAN Chairship, Bayanihan SIM Distribution, Free Wi-Fi at EDSA Busway stations, Internet Service Reforms, and Grok AI and Online Safety.
In this connection, the Philippines is considering restoring access to the AI chatbot Grok following a commitment from its developer to remove image-manipulation tools that recently raised concerns, particularly regarding children’s safety.
Last week, the Philippines blocked Grok amid concerns over its ability to generate sexualized images, including content that could pose a threat to the safety of minors.
According to DICT Secretary Henry Aguda, although the ban has been completed, the agency will continue to closely monitor the app to ensure it complies with the country’s rules and regulations.
Discussions with Grok officials regarding the possible lifting of the ban are also reportedly underway.
