Police authorities evacuated students of Cabantian National High School on Wednesday morning after a reported bomb threat sent through Facebook Messenger prompted an emergency response.
According to a police report dated Jan. 21, 2026, the incident was reported at about 6:29 a.m. after a teacher informed police that a student had received a message claiming a bomb was planted inside the school, located in Country Homes, Barangay Cabantian.
Police personnel immediately responded and, in coordination with school officials, evacuated all students to the Barangay Cabantian Gymnasium as a safety precaution.
Initial investigation showed the threat was received by a 12-year-old Grade 7 student identified as Chris. The message, sent by an unknown individual using the Facebook profile name “Dumpni Jo,” warned that lives would be at risk and stated, “The clock is ticking.”
Chris forwarded the message to a classmate, Ana, who initially believed it was a scam and advised him to delete it. The message was later deleted when they met inside the school, after which the teacher was informed, prompting police notification and evacuation.
Personnel from the Davao City Explosive Ordnance Disposal and K-9 Unit, led by PSMS Arsil Indagacan, conducted a thorough inspection of the school premises. Authorities reported negative findings, confirming that no explosive devices were found.
Police said follow-up investigation is ongoing, and the cellular phone involved will be turned over to the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 11 for digital forensic examination to identify the sender. Charges will be filed against any person found responsible.
The Davao City Police Office reminded the public that making or spreading bomb threats is a serious offense punishable under Presidential Decree No. 1727, carrying penalties of up to five years in prison, a fine of up to ₱40,000, or both.
Acting City Director PCOL Mannan Caracas Muarip stressed that false threats endanger lives and disrupt public order, urging the public to act responsibly.
