DFA expresses concern over ‘word war’ between the Chinese Embassy and PH officials

The Philippine government has expressed concern over the escalating “word war” between the Chinese Embassy in Manila and several Philippine officials.

These include senators, members of the House of Representatives, and leaders of various government agencies.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it affirms its support for officials in carrying out their duty to defend the Philippines’ sovereignty, rights, and jurisdiction.

It said that their views are an inevitable part of a democratic society.

At the same time, while the Philippines recognizes debates arising from differences in positions, the country also acknowledges the need for a professional and respectful exchange of statements.

The DFA stressed that it believes prudence in words and actions is necessary to ensure that exchanges between the two sides do not undermine the diplomatic space needed to resolve tensions.
