DepEd flags viral saturday class announcement as ‘fake news’

The Department of Education (DepEd) has flagged as fake news a viral social media post claiming that classes will be held every Saturday starting July 5, 2025.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, DepEd clarified that there is no directive requiring elementary, junior high, or senior high school students to attend classes on Saturdays.

The agency reminded the public to be cautious of unverified information, especially those spreading on social media. It explained that the post circulating online is not based on any official announcement and should not be trusted. DepEd emphasized that updates related to class schedules will only be posted on its legitimate and verified social media accounts.

The viral post caused confusion among parents and students nationwide. In response, DepEd acted quickly to issue a public advisory and urge netizens to think critically before sharing any education-related content they encounter online.
