DepEd Ensures Completion of School Repairs in Masbate by February 2026

The Department of Education (DepEd) assured that repairs on schools damaged by Typhoon Opong in Masbate are expected to be completed between December this year and February 2026.

In a statement, DepEd reported that minor repairs on damaged roofs, ceilings, and electrical wirings at Nursery Elementary School are now 100% complete, while school building repairs are about 40% to 45% finished.

At Masbate Comprehensive National High School, several buildings and other infrastructures are already 30% to 90% completed.

According to the agency, the typhoon damaged over 1,600 schools, resulting in losses amounting to more than ₱1 billion — most of which are located in Masbate City.

DepEd has already allocated funds for the reconstruction, and Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that the goal is to ensure that students continue their education despite the disaster’s impact.
