Davao City sends aid to quake-hit Cebu

The local government of Davao City deployed 39 personnel to Cebu Province on Thursday morning to conduct relief operations following the powerful 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck the province.

The team, composed of members from various city government agencies, brought with them 5,000 food packs and 5,000 bottled waters loaded onto 10 trucks bound for the quake-hit areas.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) chief Alfredo Baloran led the group. Along with the ground team, a number of medical personnel were scheduled to fly to Cebu by plane later in the morning to provide additional assistance.

In addition to the relief goods, the city government also deployed social workers and psychologists from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to extend support to affected families and individuals coping with the disaster.

The Davao City relief convoy is expected to arrive in Cebu on Friday morning. Local officials said the coordinated response aims to support the ongoing efforts of Cebu’s provincial government in addressing immediate needs in communities hit hardest by the quake.

Meanwhile, members of the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) unit of Central 911 in Davao City remain on standby. They may be deployed to Cebu if additional manpower is needed for search and rescue operations in the aftermath of the earthquake.

The Davao City government emphasized that the relief mission underscores its commitment to extend help beyond its jurisdiction during large-scale disasters.
