Davao City plans 20 new buses, digital tracking system

The Davao City government is planning to acquire 20 new public buses and develop a digital tracking system as part of efforts to improve public transportation services in the city.

Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang announced the plan on Tuesday, May 26, saying the additional buses would be integrated into the city’s current transit system.

According to Dayanghirang, the move aims to address commuter congestion and improve the efficiency of public transportation for residents and daily passengers.

The 20 new buses are expected to increase the capacity of the city’s transit network, helping accommodate more commuters and reduce overcrowding on existing routes.

In addition to the bus acquisition, the city government also plans to establish a digital tracking platform that will allow passengers to monitor the real-time location of public buses through their mobile phones.

The proposed system is designed to help commuters better plan their trips by providing updated information on bus locations and expected arrivals. City officials said the platform would contribute to a more convenient and efficient commuting experience.

The planned transportation improvements form part of the local government’s broader efforts to enhance mobility and public transport services in Davao City.

Funding for the project will come from the proposed Supplemental Budget 1 for Fiscal Year 2026.

The proposal is expected to support the city’s ongoing transportation initiatives by expanding available public transit options while introducing technology-based services for commuters.

If approved, the additional buses and digital tracking platform will become part of Davao City’s existing transit system, providing residents with improved access to public transportation and real-time travel information.
