Comelec Orders Disqualification of Three Local Officials

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has officially disqualified three elected officials from the recent midterm elections — Tarlac City Mayor Susan Yap-Sulit, Cabuyao Mayor Dennis Hain, and Albay Governor Noel Rosal.

According to the Comelec, Rosal’s Certificate of Candidacy (COC) contained material and false declarations, which rendered him unqualified to run for public office.

The poll body explained that Yap-Sulit’s disqualification stemmed from her failure to meet the one-year residency requirement in Barangay Tibag, Tarlac City — a case earlier dismissed by the Second Division but later reversed by the Comelec En Banc.

Yap-Sulit’s camp said it would appeal the ruling, expressing readiness to present documents and evidence to disprove the allegations. They also urged the Comelec to reconsider its decision.

Meanwhile, Hain’s disqualification was due to findings of vote-buying violations, according to the commission.
