The Commission on Elections (Comelec) explained that different systems are used for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) and the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE).
In an interview, Comelec Chairman George Garcia said that because of this, holding the two elections on the same day would be difficult.
While he acknowledged that conducting both elections on a single day may be economical, he said it would be impractical due to the differences in their systems.
He added that the voter bases are also different.
According to Garcia, voters for the BPE are those registered as of May 2025, while BSKE voters are those registered for the November 2 elections.
He said that holding the elections on separate dates would allow stakeholders to focus better on each process.
Two elections are scheduled this year—the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections on March 30, and the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on November 2.
