The Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao, through BRP Tubbataha (MRRV 4401), responded to a distressed motor launch near Basilan Province, ensuring the safety of those on board.
The Philippine Coast Guard said the motor launch, identified as ASX Express 2, was located about 1.13 nautical miles from Pangasahan Island when it encountered trouble.
The incident happened while MRRV 4401 was conducting ongoing search and rescue operations for the ill-fated MV Trisha Kerstin 3 in waters near Baluk-Baluk Island, also in Basilan Province.
According to reports, ASX Express 2 experienced a steering casualty while traveling to Zamboanga City from Banguingui in the province of Sulu.

The boat captain immediately requested assistance after the steering problem occurred. With BRP Tubbataha operating nearby as part of the continuing maritime search mission, the Coast Guard vessel promptly proceeded to the location of the distressed motor launch.
The Philippine Coast Guard said the timely response ensured that no casualties were reported.
