Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Romeo Torre III is set to file cyber libel charges against former broadcaster Jay Sonza and an unnamed vlogger for spreading false information about his alleged hospitalization.
According to Torre, the circulating photos claiming he was confined in a hospital are fake and digitally altered. He denied all claims about his health, asserting that he is in good condition.
“These pictures are fabricated and Photoshopped,” Torre said. “I’m perfectly fine and could even run a marathon right now.”
The Department of Justice has prepared the case, and Torre stated it is ready to be filed. He added that the process now only requires the formal swearing-in before a fiscal.
The controversy began after social media posts suggested Torre had fallen seriously ill. These claims caused widespread speculation and highlighted the growing problem of fake news. Torre expressed frustration over the situation, emphasizing that such acts harm reputations and spread unnecessary panic.
Torre explained that holding individuals accountable for spreading false information is crucial in combating disinformation. He also stressed the importance of verifying the accuracy of content before sharing it online, noting the legal consequences of such irresponsible behavior.
