Balut vendor fabricates robbery story in Davao City

Authorities have confirmed that an alleged robbery involving a female balut vendor on January 19, 2025, in front of Rose Bakeshop in Agdao, Davao City was fabricated.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:45 PM and garnered significant attention on social media, initially reported a male suspect using pepper spray and assaulting the vendor with a ballpen point. However, CCTV footage revealed that no robbery took place.

Police investigation determined that the vendor inflicted the minor injury on her right shoulder using a blade, which was later recovered at the scene. Contrary to her claims, there was no suspect involved, and the entire incident was staged.

Police Station 1 – Sta. Ana, led by PMAJ Richeen Lagnayo, has invited the vendor for further clarification. Acting City Director PCOL Hansel Marantan of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) condemned the deceitful act, stating that filing false reports misleads authorities, wastes resources, and causes unnecessary public alarm.

“Such acts undermine public trust and divert attention from genuine cases. We will ensure appropriate charges are filed to hold the individual accountable,” Marantan said.

The DCPO urged the public to report incidents truthfully and responsibly to help maintain peace and order. Authorities emphasized that cooperation built on integrity and trust is essential for a secure and orderly community.
