Cebu City approves hospital fee hikes, but new rates won’t burden patients

Cebu City has approved a significant adjustment to its public health service fees, a move expected to affect a range of medical services. The Cebu City Council passed the amendment to Section 67, Chapter 18, of the Omnibus Tax Ordinance on its third and final reading.

City Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera, the author of the ordinance, explained that the measure aims to raise and standardize fees for medical and health services across the Cebu City Health Department (CCHD), Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC), and Guba Community Hospital.

The newly adjusted rates are designed to improve hospital equipment, facilities, and services. Despite the increases, Pesquera assured that the changes would not significantly impact patients or their families, as the new fees are aligned with PhilHealth coverage. She emphasized that the city government had only adjusted the rates to match those prescribed by PhilHealth.
