Cassandra Li Ong, a representative of Lucky South 99 and close associate of ousted mayor Alice Guo, appeared before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday for a preliminary investigation into a qualified human trafficking complaint filed against her.
Ong is accused of involvement in a trafficking operation that allegedly exploited individuals for illegal activities. Authorities are also investigating Ong’s alleged links to the underground Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO), raising suspicions of a wider criminal network.
The case has drawn significant attention due to Ong’s connection with Guo, whose name surfaced in previous controversies. Investigators are probing the duo’s potential roles in facilitating the shadowy operations, which include illegal recruitment schemes and unregulated gambling.
Other respondents in the case are expected to submit their counter-affidavits to the DOJ in the coming days, as the investigation continues to uncover the full extent of their alleged participation.
