Families of victims of alleged extrajudicial killings, along with Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio Cardinal David, former Rep. Erin Tañada, and several others, have urged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to establish a National Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
The proposed body would conduct a thorough investigation into the drug war launched under former President Rodrigo Duterte.
According to Cardinal David, the commission is not intended for revenge, but for truth, accountability, sympathy for victims, and to help the country gain moral clarity.
He said the initiative aims to provide closure to the families of victims and offer a “safe venue” for survivors and witnesses to come forward.
Cardinal David stressed that last year’s Quad Committee hearings on the bloody anti-drug campaign yielded no resolution.
A truth commission, he said, would send a powerful message: that the country chooses courage over fear, and accountability over impunity.
