The group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) stressed that the dismissal of the impeachment complaint against President Bongbong Marcos by the House Justice Committee was not a victory for justice.
According to the group, the move was a premature and unjust killing of a constitutional process that was meant to ensure accountability among those in the highest positions of power.
In a statement, Bayan said that if the President is pleased with the outcome, the Filipino people are not.
The House of Representatives, the group said, chose to outright dismiss the complaint instead of allowing a transparent discussion of the allegations.
Bayan further argued that the process was rushed, weakening the system of checks and balances that should be upheld and enforced.
The group added that instead of bringing out the truth, the House acted as a “shield” not only for the President, but also for its own members.
In the end, Bayan said that while the President may be happy for now, public anger remains.
The group emphasized that the dismissal of the complaint will not erase the questions, the evidence, and the outrage of the Filipino people.
They also said they will not stop until those who should be held accountable are made to answer.
