Expelled Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga said he has no regrets about criticizing several politicians, despite the move leading to his removal from the House of Representatives.
Barzaga made the statement after being expelled from the chamber following findings that he violated House Rules and displayed behavior deemed inappropriate for a member of Congress.
The decision came after proceedings involving the House Ethics Committee, which reviewed complaints related to Barzaga’s conduct. According to House Ethics Committee Chairperson and 4Ps Party-list Representative JC Abalos, another suspension was no longer considered sufficient disciplinary action.
Abalos noted that Barzaga had already been suspended twice for 60 days each. Despite those penalties, he said Barzaga’s behavior allegedly did not improve, prompting the committee to support stronger sanctions.
Barzaga, however, maintained that he stood by his criticisms and expressed no remorse over his statements against certain politicians.
At present, the former lawmaker said he has not yet decided whether he will elevate the matter to the Supreme Court through an appeal. He added that his immediate focus is on taking a break and spending time on vacation following the controversy surrounding his expulsion.
The expulsion marks a significant development in Barzaga’s political career and follows disciplinary measures previously imposed against him by the House of Representatives.
As of now, no final decision has been announced regarding a possible legal challenge to the House action. Barzaga said he will first rest before determining his next steps.
