Three people died and one survived after a landslide buried four members of a family in Sitio Riverside Cadarong, Barangay Pulangbato, Cebu City, on Friday, Oct. 9.
The fatalities included a 60-year-old woman and two 5-year-old children, according to the initial report. A 38-year-old woman identified as Julie survived and was immediately taken to a hospital.
The Cebu City Department of Social Welfare Services reported that 53 families, or 212 individuals, were affected by the incident.
The city government has provided food assistance to affected residents and recommended additional food supplies and relief goods for the families.
Officials also recommended financial assistance of 20,000 pesos for each of the three fatalities. The same amount was recommended for each owner of a damaged structure.
Authorities continue to advise residents to exercise caution and follow official announcements and safety instructions.
Cebu City experienced rainfall in the days before the landslide. The report noted that the recent rains may have softened the soil and increased the risk of landslides.
The initial report did not provide further details about the extent of structural damage or the condition of the survivor following her hospitalization.
The city government’s recommended assistance is intended to support the families of those who died and owners of damaged structures, while additional food and relief supplies have also been recommended for affected households.
