Barangay Captain Oscar “Dodong” Bucol Jr. of Tres de Mayo in Digos City, Davao del Sur died after he was shot while streaming live on Facebook on the night of November 25. The attack happened shortly after 10 p.m., interrupting his broadcast as he spoke to a resident who returned a lost wallet.
Footage showed Bucol engaging calmly with the person when gunfire suddenly erupted. The video then captured him staggering, blood visible on his hand, as he pleaded for help. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive.

Earlier, Bucol had also gone live, saying he was not worried about threats to his safety. He told viewers he stood firm for the interests of his barangay and Digos City despite warnings he had received. The late captain was known for criticizing prominent personalities in Davao del Sur.
Police said they have yet to identify a suspect. Investigators from the Digos City Police Office continue to review evidence and pursue leads to determine the motive behind the attack.

Residents flocked to Bucol’s home and the hospital upon learning of his condition. Many expressed grief over the death of a barangay official they described as outspoken and active in community concerns.
Bucol was also known as a supporter of the Duterte family and was affiliated with the PDP-Laban party of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Authorities have appealed to the public for cooperation as the investigation continues.
