Austria Opens More Job Opportunities for Filipino Workers

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has secured expanded labor opportunities for Filipinos in Austria following a meeting with Austrian Minister Wolfgang Harttsmanndorfer of the Ministry of Economy, Energy, and Tourism.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and Harttsmanndorfer reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Philippine–Austrian labor cooperation, particularly under the 2023 twin bilateral agreements focusing on the recruitment of professionals and skilled workers, including nurses.

Austria also emphasized its strong interest in increasing the hiring of Filipino workers in the healthcare sector. The country is likewise opening opportunities in caregiving, tourism, and hospitality through a special hiring arrangement.

Secretary Cacdac welcomed the development, saying Austria’s openness to Filipino workers reflects continued trust in the skills and capabilities of the Filipino workforce.

At present, around 8,000 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) reside in Austria, with more than 700 deployed just over the past two years.
