Government troops recovered nearly 300 hand grenades from an arms cache believed to belong to remnants of the Daulah Islamiya–Maute Group in Lanao del Sur, the military said.
The recovery took place on March 11, 2026, in Barangay Piagolongan, Marogong, Lanao del Sur.
Troops from the 55th Infantry Battalion, supported by other military units, conducted the operation in Barangay Piagolongan, Marogong, Lanao del Sur.
Authorities said soldiers recovered a total of 295 hand grenades from the cache.
The military said the discovery dealt a significant blow to the operational capability of the threat group believed to be behind the weapons stockpile.
Officials said removing the grenades from circulation could also help prevent possible mass-casualty attacks in the area.
According to the military, the arms cache was located with the help of information provided by local residents.
The cooperation from the community reflects growing trust between civilians and government security forces working to maintain peace and security in the region, the military said.
Maj. Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr., commander of the 1st Infantry Division, commended both the troops and the community members who contributed to the operation.
Barroquillo said cooperation between security forces and civilians plays a key role in dismantling terrorist networks and locating hidden war materiel across Western Mindanao.
The military continues to monitor areas in the region where remnants of the Daulah Islamiya–Maute Group may still be operating.
Authorities said the recovery of the grenades is part of ongoing security operations aimed at preventing armed groups from regaining strength and carrying out attacks in communities across Western Mindanao.
