With most of its towns lying along the coast, Antique is extending its Undas safety operations from cemeteries to beaches to guard against possible drowning incidents.
Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Michael Tolentino said on Thursday, October 30, that a coastal watch will run from October 30 to November 4 as part of precautionary efforts during the long weekend.
He said personnel were deployed not only to cemeteries and major roads but also to coastal areas to conduct beach watch.
Of the province’s 18 municipalities, 15 are in coastal areas, prompting authorities to include the shoreline in their Undas monitoring coverage.
Tolentino urged both residents and tourists to observe water safety while swimming or engaging in beach activities to prevent accidents.
