Binigyang diin ni Sen. Bong Go ang kapangyarihan ng sports para pag-isahin ang bansa, kasabay ng pagpapasalamat sa mga medalists ng 2020 Olympic Games sa Tokyo, Japan na physically present sa sesyon ng Senado noong Lunes, dahil sa paghihikayat at pagbibigay ng inspirasyon sa milyon-milyong Pilipino, na may mensahe ng pag-asa sa gitna ng COVID-19 pandemic.
Si Go ay co-sponsored sa resolusyon na inaprubahan ng Senado na nagbibigay ng pormal na pagpuri sa mga Pilipinong atleta na lumahok sa Olympic, para sa kanilang historic performance, kung saan nagtapos ang bansa sa apat na medalya, na siyang best-ever tally simula nang makiisa sa global sports competition noong 1924.
Una nito, naghain na si Go at co-sponsored rin ng iba’t-ibang resolusyon na nagbibigay papuri sa mga atleta.
“I extend my warmest felicitations and utmost support to our Filipino athletes who participated and exemplified admirable dedication and perseverance in different sporting categories during the Tokyo Olympics. I also would like to place into the record that this will serve as one of the greatest moments in Philippine sports history,” saad ni Go.
“Indeed, the accolades and accomplishments of our countrymen have served as a source of encouragement and inspiration, and even unified the nation. This goes to show that despite the challenges we are facing, and the humbling experience this pandemic has brought upon each of us, we (can) continue to strive harder and soar to greater heights,” dagdag nito.
Kaugnay nito, personal rin na binati ng senador ang mga medalists na ginawaran ng Philippine Senate Medal of Excellence, ang bagong binuong award na nagkikilala, nagpaparangal at nagpupuri sa mga outstanding Filipinos para sa kanilang exemplary service, outstanding achievements, at invaluable contributions sa nation-building.
