Romualdez, saying his acknowledgment should serve as an example to others who spread false information.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro described Tulfo’s admission as professional, noting that the information he initially posted on social media did not originate from him.
Castro said Tulfo was the one who published the information but had received it from other sources.
She also urged individuals who spread misinformation to acknowledge their mistakes instead of aggressively defending questionable claims when confronted.
According to Castro, Tulfo’s response should encourage others who frequently disseminate fake news to take responsibility when they share inaccurate information.
Meanwhile, Malacañang withheld a definitive position on reports that Romualdez had a personal aide attending to him around the clock while detained in Quezon City.
The report was reportedly based on testimony from a jail warden before the Sandiganbayan.
Castro said a deeper investigation was necessary to determine whether there was sufficient justification for providing Romualdez with a personal aide 24 hours a day.
She added that authorities should establish the reason behind the arrangement, including whether it was connected to the former House speaker’s possible health condition.
The Palace official also raised concerns about the possibility of special treatment, emphasizing that such privileges should not become an accepted practice if they lack sufficient justification.
Castro stressed that excessive privileges should not be tolerated in detention facilities when there is no valid basis for granting them.
The Palace’s remarks came as it recognized Tulfo’s decision to acknowledge that he had been misled, while calling on others who share questionable information to demonstrate the same willingness to correct their mistakes.
