A fire that broke out early Saturday in Purok Masanagon 1, Barangay San Pedro, Pagadian City, burned several adjoining residential structures and reportedly destroyed the homes of around 120 households.
The blaze started at approximately 3 a.m. on Sept. 12, 2026, and rapidly spread through the densely packed residential area.
According to a barangay kagawad, the houses were predominantly made of light and highly combustible materials and were situated close to one another, allowing the fire to quickly reach adjoining structures.
The Bureau of Fire Protection Pagadian City Central Fire Station and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office responded to the incident and carried out firefighting and emergency operations.
Firefighters declared the blaze under control at around 4:44 a.m.
A 53-year-old bedridden resident who had earlier been reported missing was later found dead, according to an update on the incident.
The fire left numerous families without homes as authorities continued assessing the extent of the destruction.
The cause of the fire, the final number of houses burned, and the estimated property damage remain subject to investigation and official assessment by the BFP.
