Defending champion PLDT bounced back from a string of setbacks after defeating Farm
Fresh, 25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, in the PVL Invitational Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Savi Davison led the High Speed Hitters with a game-high 32 points, including four blocks, as PLDT improved to a 2-2 record and kept its hopes of returning to the championship round alive.
Davison also delivered an all-around performance with 10 excellent digs and 14 receptions, while Kim Dy chipped in 15 points to help PLDT overcome Farm Fresh’s strong fightback in the third set.
PLDT dominated in attacks, 57-41, and made the most of six service aces to secure the crucial four-set victory.
Head coach Rald Ricafort emphasized the importance of staying focused on each game instead of being weighed down by the pressure of defending their championship.
Meanwhile, team captain Kath Arado said the High Speed Hitters continue to draw strength from their unity, stressing that the team refuses to let criticism on social media affect their performance.
With the win, PLDT remains in the hunt for the second and final championship berth and now faces a crucial showdown against powerhouse Creamline in a potential make-or-break match.
