EJ Obiena, wins another gold medal in Poland

Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena continued his impressive 2026 campaign after securing his eighth gold medal of the season at the Golden Sand Competition in Międzyzdroje, Poland.

Obiena cleared 5.91 meters to claim the gold and set a new meet record.

The mark also became his season-best, surpassing his previous best of 5.85 meters.

Qatar’s Seifeldin Abdelsalam finished second with a 5.75-meter clearance, while American Cole Walsh settled for bronze after clearing 5.70 meters.

Following the victory, Obiena climbed to No. 13 in the world rankings as he continues to chase a spot in the top eight to qualify for the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
