Malacañang urges Sen. Bato Dela Rosa to surrender

Malacañang has renewed its call for Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa to surrender voluntarily, warning him against setting an example for people who hide to evade arrest warrants.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Philippine National Police gave Dela Rosa a one-week period to encourage his voluntary surrender and help prevent tension during an arrest operation.

Castro cited a statement by PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. regarding the deadline.

The Palace stressed that Dela Rosa, a former PNP chief and sitting senator, should be among the first to respect the law rather than inspire others to hide instead of facing their cases.

Malacañang assured the public that police would continue searching for the senator.

The government’s position follows a directive from Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla, who called for a “no mercy” approach in enforcing the law against individuals who disregard authorities.

Castro reiterated the Palace’s appeal for Dela Rosa to cooperate with authorities and surrender voluntarily.

The one-week period was intended to provide an opportunity to avoid possible tension during the arrest, according to the Palace.

Authorities are expected to continue efforts to locate the senator in line with government directives. The Palace did not provide further details about the ongoing search.
