A grieving family is calling for accountability after a 27-year-old man died following an electrocution incident in Sitio Dalamo, Barangay Arcanghel Sur, Balete, Aklan.
The victim was repairing a water pump at their home on August 3 when he accidentally suffered an electric shock. His wife, Lovelle Sarandin, immediately sought assistance from the Balete Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
She claimed her husband was still alive and had vital signs when responders placed him inside the ambulance.
However, she alleged that rescue personnel failed to administer oxygen or perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation while transporting him to the hospital. She also claimed one responder was using a mobile phone instead of attending to the patient.
Doctors later declared the victim dead upon arrival at the hospital. According to Sarandin, the attending physician asked whether responders had provided first aid.
She claimed the responders admitted they did not perform emergency procedures because the patient’s vital signs initially appeared normal.
Balete Municipal Police Station chief PLT Rezie Bulanon confirmed that the victim’s wife has already met with officials of the MDRRMO.
Police said the family will decide whether to pursue further action regarding the incident. Meanwhile, Sarandin appealed to the MDRRMO to improve its emergency response services to help save lives in future emergencies.
