A truck helper was killed after being run over by a reversing cement mixer truck in Barangay Cambigong, Samboan, Cebu, at noon on July 28.
The victim was identified only as Rey, 53, a resident of Argao, Cebu.
According to the Samboan Police Station, the cement mixer truck was transporting cement to Barangay Canyorong when it failed to continue climbing an uphill road due to suspected mechanical failure.
Police said the truck suddenly rolled backward, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Authorities said the victim attempted to jump to safety but was still struck by the reversing cement mixer truck.
Rey was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The truck driver was not injured in the incident.
Police said the driver is now under police custody while authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
