A Grade 10 student was found carrying a loaded revolver inside a school in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, prompting an immediate response from school officials and police on June 30.
According to authorities, school officials discovered a .38-caliber revolver with six rounds of ammunition inside the bag of the 15-year-old student during school hours.
The firearm was immediately reported to the Philippine National Police, and responding officers took custody of the weapon after it was voluntarily surrendered by school administrators for proper documentation.
Police said the student is being treated as a child in conflict with the law (CICL) and was placed under a child-sensitive intervention process in accordance with existing procedures.
The minor was later turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for appropriate intervention.
Police Regional Office 6 emphasized the importance of prompt coordination between school authorities and law enforcement agencies in addressing incidents that could affect the safety and security of students.
Authorities said the immediate reporting of the incident allowed officers to secure the firearm and carry out the proper legal and welfare procedures for the minor involved.
No injuries or other untoward incidents were reported in connection with the discovery of the firearm.
The police did not disclose additional information regarding how the student allegedly obtained the revolver.
