The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) has called on the public to remain vigilant to ensure that the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) protest does not weaken the country’s fight against corruption.
In a statement, Bayan said the INC’s call to hold corrupt officials accountable is legitimate. However, the group argued that the INC failed to apply the same standard to Senator Rodante Marcoleta, who is facing graft and plunder complaints related to alleged election offenses.
Bayan claimed that the INC’s allegations of “selective justice” are contradictory, alleging that the protest aims to prevent Marcoleta’s possible arrest.
The group further alleged that the INC is distorting the call for justice by using it to negotiate concessions from the Marcos Jr. administration, which it described as corrupt.
Bayan also said the INC’s appeal for transparency is inconsistent with its actions.
The group urged the public to stay alert and prevent the protest from undermining genuine anti-corruption efforts.
According to Bayan, the demonstration reflects not only the country’s deep political crisis fueled by infighting among political elites, but also what it described as a system dominated by corrupt political dynasties.
The group added that it supports efforts to hold both the Marcos and Duterte blocs, as well as their allies, accountable for alleged corruption.
