The advocacy group Bantay Senado has conducted its first Barangay Assembly focused on the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte in Taytay, Rizal.
In a social media post, Bantay Senado convenor and spokesperson Cleve Arguelles said the initiative has a simple objective: to help the public engage in one of the country’s most important democratic processes.
As part of the assembly, organizers explained the impeachment trial process to participants and discussed how the proceedings work.
The group also listened to the views of attendees regarding the significance of the trial and its implications for ordinary Filipinos.
“The goal of these assemblies is simple: to help prepare the public to participate fully and meaningfully in one of the most important democratic processes in the country. We walked participants through the impeachment trial process and, just as importantly, listened to their views on why this trial matters for ordinary Filipinos,” he said.
According to Arguelles, the gathering is only the beginning of a broader public engagement campaign.
More barangay assemblies are expected to be held in the coming weeks, including in areas such as Manila, Pasig, Marikina, Laguna, San Mateo, and Quezon City.
Bantay Senado said it hopes the initiative will help bring the issue of the impeachment trial closer to the public and local communities.
The group also expressed gratitude to the volunteers who helped make the first barangay assembly possible.
