Northern Samar reported zero casualties after Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) pounded the province for nearly 18 hours on Sunday with fierce winds and heavy rains.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said on Sunday, November 9, that preemptive evacuation of 45,706 residents before Uwan’s landfall proved crucial in saving lives.
All local government units confirmed no deaths despite the storm’s extensive impact, based on reports submitted to the Northern Samar Emergency Operations Center.
PDRRMO chief Rei Josiah Echano commended the swift coordination of local DRRM officers, local governments, and volunteers who worked around the clock during emergency operations.
Super Typhoon Uwan was among the strongest cyclones to hit Eastern Visayas this year, triggering widespread precautionary measures across the region.
The provincial government continues to assess damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and public utilities as part of its post-disaster operations.*
