Barangay captain in Dumaguete caught in buy-bust

A barangay captain in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation around 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25.

Authorities identified the suspect as “Inah,” 49, who is listed as a High-Value Target (HVT) under the government’s anti-drug campaign.

During the operation, police seized 19 sachets of suspected shabu weighing about five grams in total.

The suspect is now facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The arrest has stirred attention because of the barangay captain’s position and his inclusion on the HVT list. Local officials and residents have yet to issue statements on the incident, but authorities confirmed that further investigation will proceed.

Law enforcement emphasized that the buy-bust was part of continuing operations in Negros Oriental aimed at curbing the illegal drug trade.
