Eight goats were found dead with bite marks on their bodies in Barangay Nato, Anini-y, Antique, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities and veterinary officials.
Based on initial information, the incident was discovered on the morning of Monday, May 25, when the owner found the goats lying motionless and already dead.
The animals reportedly sustained visible bite marks, raising concerns about a possible attack by wild animals in the area.
In an interview with Brigada News San Jose Antique, Dr. Marco Rafael Ardamil of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian-Antique said the goats may have been attacked by wild dogs or stray dogs believed to be roaming near the community.
However, Ardamil clarified that the exact cause of death has not yet been officially determined as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
Veterinary officials said the owner of the goats may request a necropsy examination to establish the precise cause of death and determine whether the injuries were directly responsible for the animals’ deaths.
A necropsy is a medical examination performed on animals after death to identify possible diseases, injuries, or external causes.
Local authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the condition of the area where the goats were found or whether similar incidents had previously been reported in the barangay.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials gather more information surrounding the deaths of the eight goats.
Residents were advised to remain vigilant as officials assess the circumstances behind the incident in Barangay Nato.
