The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has announced that the 2nd Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) will be conducted on Thursday, June 18.
The activity will be carried out in coordination with member agencies of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Participating agencies will join a ceremonial button-pressing event at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City, which will signal the official start of the nationwide earthquake drill.
The event will also be followed by the launch of the Harmonized National Contingency Plan (HNCP) for a High-Intensity Earthquake in the Greater Metro Manila Area.
The HNCP outlines the coordination framework among the national government, Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils, and local government units during major seismic events such as the anticipated “Big One.”
Under the plan, neighboring regions will be mobilized to assist Metro Manila by providing support for search, rescue, and other emergency response operations in the aftermath of a major earthquake.
