16 injured after car hits passenger jeep in Naga City, Cebu

At least 16 people were injured after a car crashed into a passenger jeep along the national highway in Sitio Sambag, Barangay Tuyan, Naga City, Cebu on the morning of March 9.

The collision happened around 9 a.m., according to initial police reports.

CCTV footage showed a passenger jeep bound for Barangay Basak in Cebu City stopping along the roadside to pick up passengers. Moments later, a car traveling south suddenly swerved into the opposite lane and crashed into the jeep.

The impact caused the jeep to overturn.

Drivers and passengers from both vehicles were injured in the crash. Several civilians standing near the roadside were also caught in the incident.

Among those injured was the jeep driver identified as Rogelio, 49, along with six of his passengers aged between 16 and 67.

The driver of the car, identified as Wil, 42, was also injured together with three members of his family aged five to 65.

Other victims included Eddie, 23, as well as Phoebe, 30, and her three sons aged 11, six, and two years old.

All victims were immediately brought to a hospital for treatment.

Initial police investigation indicated that the driver of the car may have lost control of the vehicle after experiencing a problem with the steering wheel.

Authorities said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
