A 12-year-old boy died after being struck by a fallen tree during heavy rain and strong winds in Marilog District, Davao City, authorities said.
The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on June 13 in Sitio Kawayan Lower B, Barangay Tamugan.
The victim was identified as Angelo Laid.
According to barangay responder Jeboy Gahoc, the boy was taking shelter in a local waiting shed along with his one-year-old sibling as rain and strong winds affected the area.
Authorities said the children sought refuge from the weather when a tree suddenly toppled and fell onto the structure where they were staying.
The falling tree struck Angelo, causing fatal injuries that resulted in his immediate death.
His younger sibling survived the incident and was not seriously harmed.
Initial reports indicated that weather conditions in the area included heavy rainfall and strong winds at the time of the accident.
Residents and responders immediately reacted following the incident, while local authorities conducted an assessment of the area.
The Marilog Police Station has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
