Sen. Erwin Tulfo questioned the authority of the camp of Sen. Alan Cayetano to conduct a planned Blue Ribbon Committee hearing scheduled for June 16.
Tulfo said the issue stemmed from recent changes in Senate leadership and committee assignments. He noted that when Sen. Win Gatchalian was installed as Senate President Pro Tempore on June 3, committee positions were also declared vacant.
According to Tulfo, the changes affected the leadership of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. He said Sen. Pia Cayetano no longer serves as the committee’s chair because he now holds the position.
The senator made the statement after former congressman Mike Defensor announced through a social media post that a Blue Ribbon Committee hearing would proceed on June 16. Defensor said the hearing would not be held inside the Senate but instead at the Doublegem EDSA Garden Events Place.
Defensor also appealed for public support for what he described as the “BRAVE 18” and an additional group he referred to as “maleta boys,” whom they plan to present during the hearing.
When asked about the possible objective of the planned proceeding, Tulfo said he believes it could be intended to destabilize the government.
He added that he is certain that both his name and that of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. would again be mentioned during the hearing.
Tulfo further claimed that, aside from him and the President, senators who are not allied with the Cayetano camp could also become subjects of discussion during the event.
As of posting time, no response from the Cayetano camp regarding Tulfo’s remarks had been reported.
